Kolkata, a traditional hub of apparel & textile sector of North Eastern region is now having two major garment fairs drawing a large number of manufacturers, buyers & retailers from different parts of the country and adjacent Countries like Bangladesh and Nepal.
While WBGMDA began its 42nd Garment buyers & sellers meet at Hotel Peerless Inn yesterday, Eastern India Garment Manufacturers & Exporters Federation (EIGMEF) inaugurated a similar meet at Hotel Hindustan today. The three-day event was inaugurated by Mahendra Choudhury.
Both the venues, not so far from each other, in central parts of the metropolis took a festive look with buyers & visitors hopping from one place to another to find their choiced items. The events are of great importance for the retailers, particularly before the upcoming festival season.
Renowned national brands and local manufacturers setup their stalls at the venues to display products to buyers and visitors. The meets are very popular, as category-wise different brands are available at a particular place all together.
While 80 stalls were setup at Peerless, altogether 120 brands were displayed at the HHI. Local manufacturers virtually dominated the venues with kids and ladies wears taking a major share. Business transactions at both the places are expected to be satisfactory this year in the back drop of several effective measures announced by the centre for the development of the sector.
