A new mega carpet cluster at Malgaon village in West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district to be set up by the West Bengal directorate of textiles where weavers have been stitching Banarasi-style carpets since the 1980s. The work will start after the nearly-complete detailed project report by the government.
The Malgaon Handloom Cluster Development Society, formed in 2009 have about 300 women weave carpets in that village at present. Besides weaving woolen carpets, the facility provided to the weavers will be the arrangements for training, marketing and carpet designing, district industries centre general manager, Sunil Sarkar said.
Various sizes of carpets are made in Malgaon every month, society’s president Siddique Hossain said. The district industries centre makes arrangements to send these carpets to various handicraft fairs.
