A four-day powerloom textile mela conducted by the regional office of the Textile Commissioner (Guntur) was inaugurated by TTD trust board chairman, Chadalawada Krishnamurthy at Tirupati on Saturday.
This is also the 19th in the series of 20 exhibitions planned in the country for this financial year, the last one being in Lucknow next week.
The products have reached the stalls directly from the power looms without the ubiquitous middlemen. This means, the weavers get the amount they deserve, while the customers get the products for a reasonable price.
Power loom products such as bed sheets, towels, saris, chudidars and ladies’ dress materials from places like Erode, Dindigul, Karur, Chennai, Nagari and Varanasi are available in 24 stalls at the venue. Since the products are better than those available in the market, both in terms of price and quality and there is great response particularly from womenfolk, K.C. Ganesan, convener of Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) said. He is also the convener of Andhra Pradesh Power Loom Weavers Association.
