Germany based Amann Group, one of the leading international manufacturers of high-quality sewing and embroidery threads, is interested in setting up a specialized threads manufacturing unit in West Bengal. This was disclosed during an interaction organised by the West Bengal government, Indian Consulate General in Munich, BVMW and FICCI, in Munich.
Over 60 German companies took the opportunity to interact with officials and business delegates from India. Representing the 160-year-old Amann Group, its regional director Sanjeev Grewal said they were interested in setting up a large textile plant in West Bengal, for producing specialized threads.
The West Bengal government invited representatives of both the companies to the state for further talks. It has also asked its department of micro, small and medium enterprises to facilitate linking the Germany companies with private textile manufacturers in the state.
West Bengal has been a pioneer in hosiery industry, and Kolkata is considered as the birthplace of the hosiery industry in India. Kolkata, South 24 Parganas and Howrah districts constitute the hub of the hosiery industry in the region, with nearly 18,000 hosiery units.
