The online shopping portal Amazon-US has decided to market West Bengal’s Tantuja handloom saris and other products to ensure a global market for the items after the Amazon India and Flipkart which have already started marketing the iconic saris for sometime back.
West Bengal, MSME, handloom and textiles minister Swapan Debnath said that Amazon-United States will sell Tantuja sari which is a new initiative to market the product in the United States.
So far, online marketing of the saris and other handloom products was restricted to the domestic market although Tantuja was passing through a severe financial crisis.
Tantuja will continue to take the omni-channel marketing route for reaching out to customers. In order to add value to its products portfolio, Tantuja has invited weavers from Varanasi to work on its special Benarasi saris.
Tantuja, a product of West Bengal State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society, will now work together with Amazon-US for overseas promotion and its marketing.
