Apparel exports from India increased by 2.4 per cent year-on-year during April-October 2015, according to the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC).
India’s apparel exports earned 9.793 billion US dollar during April-October 2015 compared to exports value of 9.562 billion US dollar during the corresponding period of 2014, AEPC chairman Virender Uppal said at the 36th annual general meeting of the council in New Delhi.
During the first half of fiscal 2015, for which figures are available, India’s exports to the UAE shot up by 43.8 per cent to 1.860 billion US dollar over exports of 1.294 billion US dollar in April-September 2014.
India’s apparel exports to the US also registered a seven per cent growth in April-September 2015, and they increased to 1.864 billion US dollar compared to 1.742 billion US dollar in first half of last fiscal.
However, exports to the EU fell nine per cent to 3.024 billion US dollar in April-September 2015 over exports of 3.325 billion US dollar in corresponding period of last fiscal.
In financial year 2014-15 that ended on March 31, apparel exports from India fetched 16.846 billion US dollar in foreign currency, showing an increase of 12.3 per cent against exports of 15.001 billion US dollar in 2013-14.
