The government is planning to promote tribal and as well as community handicrafts through converging efforts of two ministries, the textiles ministry and the tribal welfare ministry. This will ensure that the uniqueness of their handicrafts is marketed, make them understand the kind of opportunity the market has to offer among many other benefits.
According to a report, this was informed by the union minister of textiles, Smriti Irani at the ‘ASSOCHAM Global Investors’ India Forum.
“I had a meeting three days with the minister for tribal affairs and we are mulling a convergence of efforts between the two ministries to market uniqueness of their craft, while at the same time, to see that social challenges with regards to education, healthcare and housing are met,” Irani said.
“So we are preparing a plan to ensure intervention not only in the tribal community but in the whole handicrafts community, through a convergence of the two ministries and reach out to them,” she added.
