A Handloom expo was inaugurated at Vellore on Monday where handloom weavers attached to 57 cooperative weavers societies from across the district and some from other districts have set up stalls to market their products during this festive season.
The week-long expo is held to create public awareness about the handloom products besides helping the weavers to showcase their items and sell those directly to the consumers.
The expo is organized under the aegis of Department of Handlooms and Textiles, Tamil Nadu government and the department of handlooms at the centre.
The expo is being organised in Vellore after a gap of eight years. The weavers’ societies from Gudiyattam, Kaveripakkam, Sholinghur, Kengyanallur, Sathuvachari, K V Kuppam, Tirupattur and Ambur have exhibited cotton products such as sarees, llungies, dhotis, bed spreads, curtains, towels, pillow covers etc.
Weavers from Tirupur, Vandavasi, Salem, Coimbatore, Ramanathapuram have displayed the silk and cotton sarees, kora sarees, silk dhotis etc.
