The centre is putting in efforts to make khadi a global product identity of India as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to make it a global brand to help rural artisans to increase their income, according to a concerned official.
The centre has sought help from the United Nations in promoting Khadi. It is also mulling to market Khadi globally and brand it as “Cloth of India”. Last year, Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) signed deals with Raymond and Peter England to hawk garments made out of khadi in international markets.
“We are open to give Khadi mark certification to all seeking it, subject to fulfilment of certain terms and conditions,” VK Saxena, Chairman, KVIC said.
