Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Bharat Tex 2025 event at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, marking the second edition of this mega global textile event. He also took a walkthrough of the exhibition and welcomed attendees, emphasizing that the event reflects both India’s textile heritage and its vision for Viksit Bharat.

Highlighting the significance of Bharat Tex, he noted that the event now includes all twelve communities within the textile value chain. From accessories to garments, machinery, chemicals, and dyes, the exhibition provides a global platform for engagement, collaboration, and partnerships among policymakers, CEOs, and industry leaders worldwide.

Global Participation and Business Growth

More than 120 countries are participating in Bharat Tex 2025, offering exhibitors global exposure and opportunities to expand their businesses beyond local markets. The Prime Minister shared insights from his interactions with exhibitors, noting that many businesses had successfully expanded their buyer networks through Bharat Tex. He emphasized that the event is playing a crucial role in boosting investments, exports, and overall growth in the textile sector.

Shri Modi encouraged banking institutions to support textile entrepreneurs, ensuring they have access to financial resources that can drive business growth and employment opportunities.

Showcasing India’s Textile Diversity

Bharat Tex highlights the rich cultural diversity of India’s textiles, featuring traditional garments such as Lucknowi chikankari, Bandhani from Rajasthan and Gujarat, Patola from Gujarat, Banarasi silk, Kanjivaram silk from the south, and Pashmina from Jammu and Kashmir. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of leveraging such platforms to promote India’s textile uniqueness and growth potential.

Vision for the Textile Industry

Shri Modi reiterated his 5F vision for the textile industry: Farm, Fiber, Fabric, Fashion, and Foreign. He noted that India’s textile exports grew by 7% last year, making the country the sixth-largest exporter of textiles globally. He set an ambitious target to triple India’s textile exports to ₹9 lakh crore by 2030.

The Prime Minister highlighted a decade of consistent efforts and policies that have resulted in doubling foreign investments in the textile sector. He underlined that the Mission for Cotton Productivity was introduced to ensure a reliable supply of high-quality cotton and make Indian cotton globally competitive.

Innovation and Sustainability in the Textile Sector

Bharat Tex is also driving innovation in technical textiles, including indigenous carbon fiber manufacturing. Shri Modi stressed the need for sustainability and efficient resource utilization, particularly addressing the issue of fast fashion waste, which could reach 148 million tons by 2030. He announced new initiatives like textile waste upcycling projects in cities such as Navi Mumbai and Bangalore, encouraging startups to innovate in textile recycling.

The Textile Ministry has signed an MoU with public enterprises and e-marketplaces to promote upcycling, with a growing number of upcyclers already registered. The Prime Minister projected that India’s textile recycling market could reach $400 million in the coming years, tapping into the global market estimated at $7.5 billion.

Strengthening the Handloom and Fashion Industries

Shri Modi highlighted India’s growing handloom sector, stating that over the past decade, more than 2400 large-scale marketing events have been organized to promote handloom artisans. He emphasized the role of e-commerce platforms like India-hand-made, which are expanding online sales and benefiting thousands of registered handloom brands.

Recognizing the importance of skill development, he pointed out that National Centres of Excellence for skilling and the Samarth scheme are crucial in training workers across the textile value chain. He also encouraged the fusion of tradition with innovation, citing the increasing interest in traditional attire blended with modern fashion trends.

Bharat Tex 2025: A Game-Changer for the Textile Industry

Bharat Tex 2025 is India’s largest and most comprehensive textile event, bringing together the entire value chain from raw materials to finished products. The event features a global-scale conference with over 70 sessions, exhibitions, startup pavilions, and innovation fests.

This year’s event is expected to attract over 5000 exhibitors and 6000 international buyers from 120+ countries, alongside participation from leading global textile organizations, including the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF), International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC), EURATEX, and US Fashion Industry Association (USFIA).

As India progresses towards becoming a global textile leader, Bharat Tex continues to set new benchmarks in innovation, collaboration, and sustainability, reinforcing the country’s position as a key player in the global textile economy.
