Maharashtra government has decided at a meeting in Mumbai to form district-level committees comprising senior officials and representatives of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) to monitor acceptance and adoption of goods and services tax (GST) and digital payments among traders and render assistance to resolve related issues.
The meeting between senior government officials and CAIT representatives was held as few days back prime minister directed to chief secretaries of all states to promote adoption of GST and digital payments at district level and handholding of traders.
Digital kiosks may be opened in market places to allow traders not having access to computers to make tax compliance against nominal payment, CAIT suggested at the meeting. Free Wi-Fi may be provided in rural areas for at least a couple of hours daily to assist traders in tax compliance, it added.
