Ministry of Textiles through the office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms has been implementing the following schemes for the development of handlooms and welfare of weavers in the country, including those of Maharashtra.
The schemes are –
1) National Handloom Development Programme
i) Comprehensive Handloom Development Scheme
ii) Revival, Reform & Restructuring Package
2) Handloom Weavers’ Comprehensive Welfare Scheme
3) Yarn Supply Scheme.
During the last three years and the current year (till date), a sum of Rs. 10.44 crore has been released to Maharashtra under the comprehensive handloom development scheme. Under the revival, reform & restructuring package, total claims of Rs. 8.84 crore have been approved. Under handloom weavers’ comprehensive welfare scheme, claims of Rs. 0.36 crore settled. Under yarn supply scheme, yarn worth Rs. 4.74 crore supplied to the weavers of Maharashtra.
Out of Rs. 10.44 crore released to Maharashtra as central assistance, an amount of Rs. 8.90 crore has been utilized.
Textile minister, Mr. Santosh Kumar Gangwar gave this information in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
