Country’s first common engineering facility centre (CEFC) at Bardoli in Gujarat, foundation of which was laid this week, will benefit around 1,200 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) of textile and general engineering sector in the south Gujarat region. The centre will be set up on 256 acre of land located about 40 km from man-made textile hub of Surat.
The primary objective of the CEFC shall be to provide quality services to the customers by satisfying their industrial requirement as well as impart technical and managerial training in textile machinery and product development. The centre will also support and offer services for designing and manufacturing of small and medium size textile machinery components.
To be built by the Science Engineering and Technology Upliftment (SETU) Foundation at a cost of about Rs 50 crore, the CEFC will be promoted as the centre for manufacturing and textile excellence by emphasising on prototype development, component manufacturing, material testing etc.
Mills in Surat are currently dependent on countries like China for spare parts replacement for their textile machinery. This situation will ease to a certain extent as the CEFC will be able to provide repair services at local level, according to SETU Foundation.
