Minister for industries, IT and municipal administration, K T Rama Rao urged the textiles minister, Smriti Irani to sanction a mega textile cluster for the state apart from 12 textile clusters to help Telangana weavers overcome their problems.
The minister attended a textile conference in New Delhi and urged the centre to evolve a comprehensive welfare policy for the weavers of the country.
Rao explained the measures adopted by the state government for the welfare of the weavers. “Weaver community was the second largest after farm community in the State and a right garment policy would help weavers compete with the products from foreign countries,” he said.
Later he met the finance minister, Arun Jaitley, and sought his help in resolving the pending issues of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. Then Rao also meeting with the union commerce and industries minister, Nirmala Sitaraman, KTR sought her cooperation in establishing Hyderabad-Nagpur industrial corridor, dry port, leather park and pharma SEZ in Telangana state.
