The regional unit of Co-Optex is also planning to have similar expos at Tiruvannamalai and Chittoor in May and June respectively.
In addition, a lot of silk and cotton mix sarees, ahimsa sarees made of yarn without killing silk worms, churidhar and kurti items, special cotton readymade garments for men and women are also on display.
The fair introduced pure cotton sarees with brand names Jayakarthika, Sangeeth, Kolam etc made of special cotton yarn by weaver societies attached to Co-Optex to attract young women.
The expo was inaugurated by Co-Optex vice-president, Jayanthi Somasundaram and director M Murali. The six-day expo hopes to sell around Rs.8 lakh worth of fabrics. All the products at the expo are offered a discount of 20 per cent.
This is for the first time Co-Optex has launched the ‘summer sales drive’ through an exhibition in Vellore. Hundreds of varieties of specially made summer fabric to ward off heat were being exhibited, regional manager of the society, N. K. Nair said.
