TRAINING PROGRAMMES FOR TEXTILE WORKERS

Training Programmers for Textile Workers Update

The Government of India has been actively promoting the textile sector through a series of focused schemes and initiatives across the country. Among the major ones is the PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks Scheme, aimed at creating large-scale, modern industrial ecosystems to attract investments and generate employment. Additionally, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme emphasizes boosting large-scale manufacturing in Man Made Fibre, Apparel, and Technical Textiles, thereby enhancing India’s global competitiveness.

The government has also launched the National Technical Textiles Mission, which focuses on research, innovation, market development, skill training, and export promotion in the technical textiles segment. Furthermore, SAMARTH—Scheme for Capacity Building in the Textile Sector—offers demand-driven, placement-oriented skill development programs. Other key initiatives include the Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (ATUFS) for promoting modernization through capital subsidies, Silk Samagra-2 for strengthening the sericulture value chain, and the Integrated Wool Development Programme (IWDP) to support wool production units.

Support for traditional sectors has also been emphasized through the National Handloom Development Program and National Handicraft Development Program. These schemes offer end-to-end assistance to handloom and handicraft artisans to preserve heritage crafts while improving market access and income opportunities. Through these combined efforts, the government aims to create a strong and inclusive textile industry across India.

These developments were shared by the Minister of State for Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha. He highlighted that such initiatives have led to the establishment of several textile-related units—including handloom, powerloom, readymade garments, synthetic yarn, and hosiery units—across the nation, including in regions like Mohanlalganj.
